What is the abortion pill?

The method of abortion through medication, is often referred to as "the abortion pill".

In reality, "the abortion pill" is not one pill -  it is a process that consists of two doses of medication and a follow-up appointment.

Other terms you may hear to reference the abortion pill are chemical abortion, medication abortion or self-managed abortion.

The first dose of medication for this method of abortion is mifepristone (RU-486 or Mifeprex). The second dose given is misoprostol.

What to do before taking the abortion pill

It's important to make sure you have the most accurate information regarding your pregnancy before moving ahead with your pregnancy decision. An ultrasound will help you get this information.

An ultrasound will help you determine three important factors about your pregnancy:

  1. Whether or not your pregnancy is viable.
  2. How far along the pregnancy is.
  3. The location of the pregnancy.

Schedule an ultrasound appointment to help you determine your next step in your pregnancy decision.
